The Adversary

Lion
We’ve been warned:

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. (1 Peter 5:6-9 KJV)

But, as the graphic above shows, he doesn’t always roar. Sometimes he waits behind natural beauty, tempting us to look deeper. Solomon wrote of them often, beginning with:

My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. (Proverbs 1:10 KJV)

I do believe this is the shortest blog I’ve posted in the last five years! Time is quickly passing and I must get both Beloved Husband and myself to appointments at Harris hospital this morning.

Besides, the message is simple, plain and within the grasp of everyone reading – we have an adversary described in depth in the Bible. We know what sin is – going against God’s will.  We know who we sin against – God. We know there are consequences – the least of which is damage to other people.
Most of all, we know that ‘the same afflictions are accomplished’ in everyone we know. We can be of a help to others by keeping to the narrow path headed for that strait gate (Matthew 7:14), or we can consent to the multitude of enticements surrounding us.

Oh, there are many paths in between helping and consenting – shades of grey, I’ll be told. Sorry, each one of them will take us slightly off course, making corrections becoming difficult.

The decisions we make daily will determine whether we stay on the strait and narrow.  What’s in your mind?

  1. It's so easy to get so busy that we don't even notice our adversary lurking around us. It's happens every day. Some times the consequences are life changing.

Thank you for taking time to read and comment on the blog. Comments should take into consideration this verse: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8 KJV)
