What To Do Next Wednesday

temp
Tuesday we should do what we’ve been given the privilege to do by the death of many. Most American’s won’t, and that is very regrettable. I encourage everyone to vote, even those I love who are voting very differently from the way I did.  Yes, past tense.  I took advantage of early voting and have it completely behind me. So, I’m not listening to ads.

I’m not concerned about the election, either. My vote counted, my letter writing to my representative, senator and to the White House will most likely continue, whether the subject is agreeable to me or if I diverge from the legislation under discussion. What is being done in congress affects me – I want to speak my piece. I am part of public opinion.

But, as a Christian, what should I do next Wednesday?

The Bible says, no matter who is elected, I am to pray for him:

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; (1 Timothy 2:1-3 KJV)

I will be praying for our president, as I have for years past. The man elected will be in a position of authority and I will pray for him – not so much about him, but for him. No matter which man is elected.

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. (Romans 13:1 KJV)

Yes, even dictators, elected, heroes and despised – none of them are in their position without God’s knowledge. Even when they don’t believe in Him, they carry out His plan.

Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (1 Corinthians 2:8 KJV)

It did not have to be Judas Iscariot who betrayed Him, but it was necessary that He die. It was not necessary that the chief priests try Him, but God used the available hatred to accomplish His purpose. It is not necessary that we deny Him, for the Bible says that He is one:

Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:4 KJV)

So, come Wednesday morning, I will be praying that God will guide the man chosen by voters to lead our country. The Bible says:

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; (1 Timothy 2:3 KJV)

I believe Paul speaks for himself as well as exhorting us:

I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. (1 Timothy 2:8 KJV)

Can we do that? Be without wrath whether our candidate won or not? Can we be without doubt that God is not only aware of what is happening, but that He is omnipotent? Can we trust Him to place the right person in the right spot to accomplish His will?

  1. I already voted to. I'm not worried about who gets in. God will have who he wants in and I will still serve him Wed. just as much as today.

Thank you for taking time to read and comment on the blog. Comments should take into consideration this verse: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8 KJV)
