Lessons From Children

temp
A guest writer on 'A Joyful Chaos' gives real lessons from life. Though she calls them ‘Little Lessons’, they are wonderful examples of our walk in this world. This one reminds me of God's love. Even though the life lesson comes from a child, it echoes through my mind.

In the writer’s example, her little girl kept getting out of bed and doing household chores. Each time her mother heard her, she put the child back to bed and told her to go to sleep. Finally the child explained her actions, "But I wanted to make you happy."

It caused me to ask, “What do we do to make God happy?” Then came the real hard question, “Why?”

God does ask a lot, as Jesus put it:

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (Matthew 22:37 KJV)

Key word = ‘All.’ Not part of, left over, on top of. All. Heart, soul and mind. So many people think that doesn’t leave any left over for our family and friends. They think it means doing nothing but spending all of our time and energy doing things for God – just as that child for her mother -- wanting to make Him happy.

Wrong. Take a look at the next part:

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Matthew 22:39 KJV)

His requirements really are simple.  That ‘All’ simply means to place Him as sovereign in our lives.  Consider who He is and how He has given Himself for mankind. Why would we want to do any less than what He requires:

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? (Micah 6:8 KJV)

My goodness, where will He be leading us? David said it would not only beside the still waters, but through the valley of the shadow of death. It won’t all be peaceful and serene, but we will never be left alone. Many have testified to that through the ages. Hearing about all those people helps build our faith:

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17 KJV)

That about covers what makes God happy – and the "Why?" comes down to:

We love him, because he first loved us. (1 John 4:19 KJV)

Why would we do less?

Thank you for taking time to read and comment on the blog. Comments should take into consideration this verse: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8 KJV)
