Books

The Bible has many books – many of its books contain that word, too. King James version has 181 verses containing “book” or “books”.  Not all refer to books here on earth. One of those is:

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. [Psalms 139:16 KJV]

I’ve started reading a novel based on this verse, “Book of Days” by author James L. Rubart.  I’m not a quarter of the way through the book and I’ve been struck both by that verse, and this paragraph:
“It’s born into us.  We’re not humans with a spirit.  We’re spirits with a body.  We’re made to follow something bigger than ourselves. So we latch on to things to fulfill the way we were made.”
Sometimes we latch on to the wrong things.  How can we know what is right?  There are websites that tell us the exact opposite of each other and are believed by many.  We’re divided between what “Is” and what “Is not.” How can we know?

Ask.  It really is as simple as that.

In Deuteronomy Moses is telling the people how they will stray from God.  How they will come to worship other things – physical things – and turn their back on the Lord.  When that happens:

But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. [Deuteronomy 4:29 KJV]

Perhaps not, though, according to Solomon:

Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. [Proverbs 1:28-31 KJV]

Remember that bit about “with all thy heart and with all thy soul”?  If we look seeking something for ourselves, seeking counsel to let us have what we want instead of His counsel and His reproof, He will not be found.  Not because He isn’t there, but because we’re looking for the wrong things.  The Bible tells us what we should be looking for, doesn’t it?  It also tells us how to gain faith:

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. [Romans 10:17 KJV]

If you feel as though God is not close, as though there is a separation – perhaps even that He does not exist – I must ask:  Where are you hearing the word of God?

If you are reading this, His word is available to you on line.  You may have a copy of His word in your home, gathering dust.  You may have thrown it out, given it away or never have purchased one.  Get your hands on a Bible and read it, then follow the instructions given above.

The beginning really is that simple.

  2. Amen. Great message. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." If believers do not study and read their Bibles, how can they truly understand what God's will is in their lives? God bless, Lloyd

Thank you for taking time to read and comment on the blog. Comments should take into consideration this verse: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8 KJV)
